History

Living and working in Kenyas informal settlement that is counted as a statistic of high poverty levels, HIV/AIDS and early teen pregnancies, Bernadette Muyomi felt challenged to improve the dignity of people by creating jobs. In search for money to set up a fruit farm, she knocked doors of various financial institutions and was still unable to secure a loan despite having a steady job and some assets. Either the security required needed additional financial contribution like valuations or charging of land and my pay slip was limiting because I was employed on contract basis. Empathizing with others who did not have tangible assets and seeing their anguish despite having businesses with potential , drove her to consider providing a solution for informal entrepreneurs. She founded Green Agri Ventures in 2016 to support informal entrepreneurs. The organization equips entrepreneurs with financial literacy skills and gives them credit to boost their businesses. The organization and the director have received various recognitions. Among them is the Invest 2 Impact ward (2019), Acumen fellow (2019), Young African Leadership Initiative Fellow, Kenya (2016), Global Change Leaders, Canada (2016), Top 40 under 40 women of influence, Kenya (2016), International Visitors Leadership Program (2017), Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program recipient (2016).
